Joes Defuzzer

Let’s talk about pilling. Merino wool is a natural material that has numerable great qualities. Together, those qualities make wool an extremely comfortable and durable material for wearing. There is just one tiny drawback – wool is prone to pilling. Pilling usually happens when rubbed during wear (usually around the armpits, or when wool comes into contact with bags, or belts). This causes the fibres to form little balls (pills). Although this is not uncommon, Joe wants to keep pilling to a minimum. We only use low-pilling yarns. These are yarns of the highest quality with extra-long fibres. And should your Joe still start to pill, don’t worry. Most of the pills will go out in the first wash.

If not – Joe’s nifty defuzzer (or fabric shaver) will help you get your Joe back to as-new. It’s safe, and it’s quick. Life is too short to pluck little pills off your Joes.

How to depill using the Joe defuzzer:
- Lay your Joe on a flat surface (like a table or ironing board) and gently pull the fabric taut.
- Hold the defuzzer down on the fabric.
- Press down lightly and go slowly over the pills.
- Don’t press too hard to avoid damage to the wool.
- Check your Joe methodically: sleeves first, then the front, and lastly the back.
- Switch off the defuzzer and empty the pill reservoir as soon as it is full.

Sustainability

Sustainability and Joe go hand in hand. Let us tell you why:

- Joe stands for slow fashion. Meaning we do not bring out seasonal collections, but only styles that will last you all year round for many years. For the same reason we don’t “do” sales and do not keep stocks that must be destroyed by season’s end.

- All our styles are made of Merino wool, if not fully at least partially. Wool is one of the most sustainable materials used for clothing. It is all natural, fully biodegradable, plastic-free and recyclable. And not unimportant – we only use Merino wool produced by non-mulesed sheep.

- When dyeing, we always go for the most sustainable process that uses as few chemicals as possible. Our dyeing process is ‘bluesign’-certified. The lack of chemicals is one of the reasons why our Joes hardly pill.

- All our packaging is made of 100% biodegradable cardboard and recycled and recyclable plastics.

- And lastly: with our fits that are constant and dependable (not so easy with woollen items as you might think) and our smart size calculator we have minimised the number of returns.

How to care for Merino wool

Thanks to Merino wool’s antibacterial qualities, you don’t have to wash your Joe very often. Just air your Joe outside for a night, and he will be ready for wear the next day!

Still, we recommend washing your Joe every now and then. You can do this simply and easily on the wool wash cycle in the washing machine (30° maximum, spin cycle no more than 600 rpm). Take a look at the maintenance instructions below for best results.

Take care of your Joe

  1. Wool wash at 30° and 600 rpm max
  2. Use wool detergent, no softeners
  3. No tumble drying
  4. Dry flat
  5. Iron away with a little steam
  6. No bleach
